240mm clutch into 915

Does anyone know if it is possible to fit a 240mm clutch into a 915 bell housing.

I would like to buy an Aluminium Flywheel to suit the Turbo Clutch but don't know if it will all fit in the bellhousing of an aluminum transmission case from a 3.0SC

Thanks

Don't know the answer - but a better question might be why you're trying to mate a 240mm 930 clutch with a 915 when a Sachs Sport 915 pressure plate will hold at least 400 FWHP & 375+ ft/lbs of torque?

If you're making more power than that, consider a 930 or a G50. Even built, modified late-model 915's are somewhat marginal for those power levels for street - for extended track use, you certainly will need some way to get/keep the oil temperatures down.

I assume you mean that the slip torque is 375 lbsft, which I must say I don't think is very good. If this is the break out value measured during clutch test then the dynamic behaviour would be inferior and I believe slip would occur with aggressive downshifts.

The 400BHP is not too meaningful.

As regards myreasons, I just want to understand the difference in the bellhouings between the 4 speed Turbo and G50 boxes and don't have one available to measure.

I don't know if it will work, but I have the flywheel if you need it - it's a 240mm Bremtek, RSR style, very lightly used. Give me your Email address and I'll send you a picture.

No, when I said "at least", that is calculated maximum flywheel torque - in use the clutch cannot be induced to slip under maximum loads the motor can deliver under adverse conditions - e.g. peak torque, uphill, higher gear etc.

Sachs quoted specs have a 25-30% safety factor - specs for most aftermarket parts don't. IIRC, Sachs rate the part higher than that - hence "at least".

The Sachs "Power Clutch" (a cherry-picked stock clutch in the top 10% of spec) and the "Sport Clutch" (closer to an RSR pressure plate) are two different beasts. Pedal effort necessary to operate the Sport pressure plate is considerably higher than the Power Clutch - like 2x or 3x.

Good luck with those.
