Failing brake light switches in Carreras
So halfway thru a track day yesterday, someone pointed out my lack of brake lights - none of the three were working. "Here we go again..." I thought. It was just a few years ago at another track day that I had the same problem. The brake light switch failed - it's a pressure switch on the master cylinder.
Not wanting to run the rest of the day with no brake lights, I wired up the horn button to the connector that attaches to the switch, so if I needed brake lights (if I was being followed) I could activate them by simply pressing the horn button. (pic below). Question - do these switches fail a lot? Two or three of these in the last 10-12 years seems excessive.... JB ![]()

It is a common failure point. I have seen a couple people have a quicker repeat of the failure because they only replaced one switch not realizing that there are two. I personally think this is a great point for an addition of a relay to reduce the stress on the switch. (Just like the headlights.)
I do run high wattage halogen brake light bulbs so I am running a higher wattage through the system. "Gods own brakes and wimpy, wimpy brake lights!"
