Come on guys, think about it. The reason one has fog lights is to drive in the fog, not for running around town looking cool.
-
Those of you who have driven in fog know that high beams are TOTALLY USELESS in fog - all you see is highbeam bouce back. You are blinded. You see nothing ahead of you.
-
Low beams, being aimed lower, have less bouce back, and fog lamps, having a flat, wide, low beam, have virtually no bouce back. They are desgined to put light down directly in front of your car, and to the sides, to help the driver see where the edge of the road is during marginial visibility conditions. - (driving slowly, of course)

That's why the fogs are wired so they do not operate with highbeams - fogs would provide no help since the dirver would be blinded by the highbeam bouce back. I'm sure our guys in the UK can expound further on this topic. :D
-
Therefore, WHY would you want to wire your fogs to operate with your highbeams? To look cool? :(

If ever needed to use fogs in anger I would be driving very slowly on the most quiet roads possible just to get home safely. Bad fog = multi-car pile up here esp on motorway.

When visibility is so bad that you need to see the edges of the road and 6 feet in front of the car you do not NEED to be driving.

I am thinking of replacing my fogs with vents for the front brakes, not sure about the looks though. Think that routing hoses is a problem as well.

Why don't they work with high-beams on?

Wait untill a fog some time and you'll find out. In a heavy fog, if you hit the high-beams, all you'll see is fog, no road. Fog lights
are for fog, I reserve my high beams are for 80 yr. old men in the left lane doing 55 (with their hat on of course)

Nick, the reason people flash their highs at your foglights (as I would) is because your fogs are misaligned. Or they are letting you know that your fogs must be mistakenly on as you're not actually (at least physically;)) in a fog.

Chuck, well stated.

Doug, if you can't afford the wear & tear on your headlights use of the fogs makes sense. BTW - I don't ride motorcycles so please let me know - do motorcyclists use their highs when riding during the day, or are moto low beams that bright? Even during the day, they are EXTREMEMELY bright and annoying. Thanks.

Motorcyclists that expect to stay alive for more than a few miles, burn their headlights at all times. If the "EXTREMEMELY bright and annoying" m/c headlights bother you, I'm glad we're getting noticed by the cages.

You see, after riding m/c's for 35 years and burying a few good pals, I'm kind of tired hearing car drivers saying (after they hit a biker): "I never saw the bike..."

Sheesh,

OK, there IS an easy way to do this....

There is a lead from the Fog light switch that gets its power from the one of the headlight fuses. Move this wire to the running light fuses... Voila' Now the fog lights work with only the running lights on.

No worries about power vs relay, as this power from the headlight only powers the on/off ability of the relay for the fogs, not the actual lights for the fogs
Hope I am clear.... LMK if not.

Nick,
Last night, I finally got around to re-connecting the fog lights to work as daytime running lights. Your tip worked exactly as you described, although the grey wire to the fuse block was well hidden on my car.
The Blue Bomber and I thank you!
