When SC's go bad (SCWDP members only)
An engine rebuild  RUST:eek: on an SC !?
If this (link below) is what happens with such little use I think I might have to just park mine forever. |
I'll say this much for the seller....he doesn't seem to be misrepresenting it. It's pretty crappy alright.
The seats look like cats have been using them as scratching posts. And whats with the bungee cords holding on the air filter cover? Need I go on? No stickers for this poor, neglected SC! |
did you guys miss the mileage: 321,402 miles!
How many SCs have you seen on the road with those miles. I would say the car looks great for a daily driver with those miles |
"daily commuter car for the last 13 years"
Yeah. . .only 321k neglectful daily commuter miles and it looks like this? http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate...acier Blue.jpg I thought SC's were heartier than that. Muhahahaha |

"...late model sport seats..." ??? may be late model, but not sport seats.
If I buy it and get rid of the carrera, can I get a SCWD sticker? I'll need a few dozen though. I'll use them to seal up all the leaks. |
hey, you guys are just too scared to use your SC (or Carrera) as a daily driver.....and are envious.
let's see what yours look like after you drive it 320K miles.... :D |
OK...I was a little hard on the poor dear.
At least the motor ran long enough to take a picture! This car doesn't need a sticker. It needs a miracle! |
hey my car is a daily driver used to put 60 miles a day...now with my move it is only about 10-15 a day
190K and going strong...I will post a picture at 321K and it better not look like that...hahaha |

I said "I might have to just park mine forever. " . . .I put the little rolleyes smiley at the end! Sheesh what's a guy gotta do around here to not be taken seriously? :D That thing has obviously been USED and not maintained, but still keeps on ticking. . .and doesn't look too bad. |
It's funny how some would consider $7000 a reasonable price for this POS, and then turnaround and say that a beautiful early T in excellent condition should sell for about this same price????????????????????????? I'll bet it sells. -- Curt

Obviously it's been maintained and still running and ORIGINAL PAINT, wow....most 80s Porsche's are painted (for one reason or another) these days it seems under 100K miles. boy, just look at that wax shine glistening from the sun  |
Looks pretty good to me. Needs some TLC, but I've seen a LOT worse...

Some would say it could not look more beautiful. I would say that.
|
I would say the fact that after 19 years and 320,000 miles and it still looks... reasonable, is a testament to the reliability and build of these cars.
In fact, there are still very few cars around capabale of immense milages like that - I think it is quite impressive! |
I've noticed it is sort of a sport to knock the eBay thing, maybe rightly so, but I would spare some credit to the owner of this car. For one, he seems to be pretty honest about it, and moreover 517136 kilometers....whew! His statement that he's got a Carrera, too, well...he sure appears to render justice to the concept of what a "daily driver" would then constitute! Not everyone spends weekends polishing, shining, overhauling, ...

I was almost in the SCWDP, however 911 & porsche world magazine bought the 1981 silver coupe I viewed. It has been featured in a few articles, the one with the red seat belts.
Never had experience of ebay, most feedback on this board tends to "sneer" at the non-beleivers who frequent it. http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat5.gif My '84 with 166,000 mile was in a similar state internally. PO had a 9 stone alsation dog which travelled every day with her up to manchester and back from london each week. Lots of different colour panels on my car as well as a little rust ( I do live on a rainy Island.) This one seems quite honest, nothing obvious hidden like you get in private sales here (ask me how I know) If I could afford it (time AND money) I would have a garage queen...nah, I would be out driving the thing. When it's warm wring it's effin neck ;) |
I don't think you can get to 321K miles without maintaining the car. You guys (not island) are a little too hung up on looks. Maintainance doesn't mean recovering seats, or buying the correct air filter straps. This guy made choices like "do I recover the seats in a car that has over 300K miles, or do I put the money into oil change and valve adjustment." He seems to be honestly representing the car, and providing accurate (non-flattering) pictures. I don't think he'll get $7K for it, but I get the feeling he doesn't want to sell it anyway.
Although my interior is a little better than his, and I still have the original air filter straps, I wish my car looked as good as his, and I hope I can get it to 321K miles. |
I agree with Wayne. When I was looking for my car I saw a lot worse with far less miles on the clock.
|
With a little work this car would be more than serviceable. I'm pleased to see his wheels match too. ;)
