I hate the hazy lenses on my gauges!

Are they easy to replace with the glass ones, or do I have to pull the gauges?

you need to pull the guages. i believe there is a technical article that describes the project. it is also covered in Wayne's book.

it looks relatively straight forward as long as you push out the guages from the rear (requires access from the trunk, or some acrobatic work under the dash, if i recall). also, to get the cover out, you need to CAREFULLY pry open the metal lip that keeps the front of the guage in place.

if you are careful, you won't screw up your guages. it looks like patience is the key to this project.

You didn't say what year your car is, but if it has the older VDO gauges you can just twist them out from the front. Unplug the wires, marking them if necessary. The glass face comes off with some careful prying. Its put on like a bottle cap and you have to go around the edge with something like a knife and pry it off without deforming the metal to much. Clean or replace the glass and your back in bizniz.

I put a large hose clamp around outside ring of guage to keep it from getting deformed when I pried it off.

Turned a dead clock into a very large oilpressure warning light.

They're as easy to pull as taking a cup out of a cup holder. No screws, fastners, snaps, at all. Just held in by the rubber gasket. Just get both hands around the edge and twist back and forth.
