Rod:
Lots of info on this board, do a search under CV bolts.
Also, get the Bentley SC Repair Manual, you'll love it.
If you have the 6 M8 Allen bolts rated 12.9 for the CV's, the torque is 30 ft-lbs using a 6 mm Allen key.
Snug first cross-wise all around, then do the final torque.
Make sure the mating area on the flanges is clean, no damage!
Use new Schnorr washers.
Are you using gaskets?
How did the bolts fail?

The torque spec I was actually looking for is the one long bolt that holds the stub shaft into the differential.

CV failed because I didnt initially torque following summer engine drop. Then worse yet never went back under and checked everything. So lots of lessons learned on this one. There were no lock washers of any sort when I took apart, so just put back together with new gaskets, clean dry threads, and a little dab of blue locktite.
This is something that is easy to check, and will do much more often now.

It's not very high. I think it's something like 25 ft. lbs. I'll look it up later today and post back.

Bentley SC manual 390-3 says 32 ft-lbs.
Is the axle flange seal leaking?
If you are replacing the seals, read the caution on 390-2.

be careful putting the stubs back through the seals - I screwed up 1 set of seals and took greater care with the second set.

I need to torque this same bolt, is it the same on a 75 tranny (32)?
Thanks
