Question Steering wheel play

I have some " play " in my steering wheel/column. By play i mean up and down, side to side movement in the column near the wheel itself. I have read about the bushing replacement in the tech articles section and was wondering if anyone had expirence with this. How difficult was it to do and did it fix the problem? Is this usually the fix, or are there other areas to check out. Thanks for any advice.

Yes, your bushing is gone. Its very easy to replace. Remove the steering wheel and flange, then you'll see the broken pieces of your old busing surrounding the steering shaft. Replace it with a good metal one (try Pelican or Automotion). Don't, I repeat Don't use a plastic bushing. They will break again almost immediately!!!

Replace is a bit of a misnomer. You'll actually push the broken bits of the old plastic bushing down into the steering column as you press in the new metal one. I have a picture of mine that I can email to you if you're interested.

Chris.

This is a really easy fix, it took maybe 5 minutes, all you do is take off the whell, push the new sleeve on and replace the steering wheel, and it works GREAT

Looks like they even have step-by-step instructions! And its cheap! Gotta love that.

I replaced the bushing about 2 months ago- a truely easy job. Thanks Pelican. The plastic bushing was fragmented- which made it very easy to remove.
The hardest part is getting the steering wheel off- an impact wrench makes that really easy.
good luck.
