Sheese! Any damage to the clockwork? Knew of a similar looking Targa a few years back that had been forced off the road, rolled seven times (no injuries to the lady driver and her ten year old son). The insurance company would not total the car. The last I saw it you could not tell it from new. But what about carfax?

Someone still needs to explain what the "sport" in SUV is supposed to mean. Entirely a polar opposite from what I consider a sports purpose vehicle. Try asking a salesman this question and you get some interesting looks.

Maybe sport as in scuba diving, hang gliding, kayaking, cycling, hockey, golfing with your buddies, etc.

Though there are those who say the only true sports are rock climbing, auto racing and bull fighting. Perhaps something to carry the bull...?

It refers to soccer, which is as close as most SUVs come to being driven off road. Hey, you need big ass tires and mud flaps to keep the mud of the sports field from getting all over the paint work. (And those Safari bars on the front of the posh Soccer Utility Vehicles are great for pushing shopping trolleys out of parking spots, I'm sure)

You shouldn't hate SUV's though, they are simply brainless machines. Save your ire for the inattentive idiots behind the wheel (no matter what they are driving).

The "SUV" is generally the most useless form factor of vehicle. Maybe 1 in a hundred people you see driving one really needs something with its ground clearance. It is really a weird anomaly of what is "cool", "stylish" and acceptable.

If you tried to give a mom a Suburban or a Bronco in 1970 they would have chased you out of the house and demanded you not come back until you brought back a nice station wagon. Lets see... Lots of seats, lots of cargo room, a low center of gravity, and less total mass.

For some reason SUVs became "cool" and we started handing out kinetic energy weapon-mobiles like candy to people who don't drive. They aim...

Letting someone loose with a 5000-6000lb vehicle who doesn't have a valid need for a vehicle with that form factor is pretty irresponsible. It is pretty much the automotive equivalent of 'mutually assured destruction'. Planning ahead to insure that you can damage another car more then they can damage you under the guise of self protection is a tad antisocial combined with selfish.

Passenger vehicles should be taxed based on weight. Both at time of sale and at registration.
The registration fee should be a rising curve to really reduce the mass of the vehicles going down the road. It would increase the safety of someone who chooses to drive a lighter more efficient vehicle (such as an 1800lb ST clone!), It would encourage the use of lighter weight vehicles (such as a carbon framed Lotus Elise (sorry, Porsche doesn't make anything light and toss-able anymore)). It would decrease fuel consumption and smog production. It would reduce the wear and tear on the aging road system.

And it would mean I could put together a little hand built sports racer coupe without being instantly killed by the first average driver in an SUV that isn't paying attention 50% of the time...

Well, I have a SUV - a big honking Nissan Armada. I use it to tow the boat(s) I use it to tow the car. I like the added ground clearance when I need to get back into my neighborhood when we have a tropical storm and have high tides.

I've used it to get places after Hurricanes.

I like the fact that it's heavy - because I know enough about mass to know you want to be in a heavier vehicle in a car to car accident (and I drive a bunch).

Here in Michigan we have these road creatures called potholes, you almost need an SUV just to get around.

The sport in SUV I've always thought of as the Sport of Off-Roading. The original Jeep Cherokee was the first SUV, and Ford's Explorer cast the mould making a mockery of it, for all others to follow.

I got tagged by a Honda whatever sedan. Although the damage was very slight, the sub-panel under the reflector was slightly tweaked and the rear quarter showed signs of being bent down. That's what these cars do, SUV or not. It should be noted that my car was stopped, not hiked up when stopping quickly, and the other car was accelerating. (!!)

Sorry to see the damage to the OP's car. Looks like a total.
