Speaking of lid shocks

What are the best shocks out there these days in terms of going limp again over time. I replaced the hood and engine lid shocks twice in my SC, it was almost a yearly activity. Not my definition of fun.

The 993 has the engine out and needs new deck lid shocks. Please advise which brand is best? I'd pay $50 each if they'd las 10 years guaranteed.

Thanks!

G

They all go bad over time. The problem is the severely shallow fulcrum or pivot point. Everything is near the hinge. The best I've seen ( length of service time) is the Weltmeister HD, but those ( in my experience) are delivered too long in length....requiring you to unscrew the end....cut it back a bit, and screw back on. Others say I'm nuts but this is for 2 sets of Welts already. Side by Side against a factory Stabilus set.....the Welts are clearly one-hole diameter ( mounting hole) too long.

My advice?....don't use hood shocks at all and use a prop.....like the Seine-Systems or even home brew made from carbon-fiber arrow shafts and some heim-jointed end-pieces.

I've read several threads on this subject, and most of the experts agree that the "heavy duty" struts aren't any better than the stock OEM. Don't waste the $$$.

Mine have lasted for years.

If installed backwards, the gas will leak past the seal more quickly. That is, They need to be installed such that the sliding seal side is pointed down, when the lid is closed. (that keeps the oil against the seal)
