1983 SC Targa windshield

Hello. I need some guidance from the Forum. My 83 SC Targa has a cracked windscreen/windshield. I have searched the archive only to find myself very confused. I am a DYI person and can fix everything on my SC so I believe I can handle the glass. I have been through all of the tutorials and looks do-able.

I won't be using insurance to repair so that leaves me with finding the glass and the seal.

Glass: I have read ALL of the posts and was wondering what the the consensus on where the best place to purchase the glass is? I am trying to avoid Chinese glass but also do not have $1,000 to spend on it. Is is reasonable from the dealer? Sierra Madre? It would be great to find German glass. I cannot seem to locate.

Seal: It's not clear to me what seal is "best" to use. I have read pros and cons on the Porsche seal and also the same on the URO "upgraded" seal. I am leaning towards the Porsche seal.

Please help and Thank You,
Jim

why not claim via insurance? usually covered in a way that doesn't affect premiums if claim filed . . .

Darrin - I have an agreed value policy with SF but glass coverage was not included. My mistake and I have learned from this lesson....

I bought a Sigla brand windshield for my Targa along with the seal and new stainless trim from Sierra Madre and I was very happy with the parts.

My windshield guy is Ruffino in SoCal, he's very reasonable, prompt, and knowledgeable.

I think he pre-trimmed the window rubber for better fitment. He did it by himself in less than an hour.

I replaced mine about 2.5 years and 15k miles ago with whatever the glass guy used. I don’t remember the price, but with installation it was under $300 (I provided the gasket, but definitely wasn’t the fine German piece).

I use my washer pretty regularly and the car gets plenty of use and probably goes too long between washes. It’s also had a stone chip repair. Overall, I don’t think I could be more pleased.
