Dan,
Is there a reason for this excercise ? I believe that rear seat belts are not mandatory here for that year - I dont have them in mine. Pics pls !! ![]() Cheers, Dennis. ![]()

Dennis
Mate I have 3 very good reasons - Daughter 1, Daughter 2 and Daughter 3. They are under 7 years and to keep my peace of mind and to comply with legislation, I want to put in lap sash. I know the arguement that you cannot get a real sized person into the back of an early 911... but for peace of mind and secondary reason, the law makers watch either laps sash or child restraint anchor points. Since the girls will not remain under 7 for much longer, I still want them safe. So lap sash makes sense I do the school run every morning and afternoon and I really do not like driving the Volvo Wagon. Plus the wife wants the Volvo.. so it is another car or make the 911 useful - and I do not have enough for another car. Hope that amkes my case a little easier to understand Dan

did the same hting for my kids inthe '73/
The lap belt attachement points are already in place. You just need the belts and bolts. The bolts are SAE grade 5 7/16-20 (UNF). This picture shows the installed rear belts in my car (ignore the red harness): ![]() This thread may be helpful as well: Need pictures of Rear seat belts install 911 SC

Dan,
I put one retracting sash belt in the back of my sc. I also have two daughters (one sits up front). It was pretty straight forward: drill hole through the rear shelf, bolt it up, done. It ain't pretty but it's effective. I ended up "hiding" it with the carpeted speaker shelf. I'll post a pic if you want. |

Guys
Excellent - thanks, most appreciated. Micky - mate I would like to see the pics. I have not done it yet - but I am assuming there are no seat belt anchorage points on the rear parcel shelf of the 1971. So as you said not pretty, but some carpet should hide it. Hary D - thanks, but I am not sure about the bar - I think the girls will hit their heads Dan79brooklyn - great link. I will email them. May have a problem wiht the ADR (Australia Design Rules) the Governement have their hand on themselves when it comes to regualtions, so i may be/may not be able to use their parts. So just to confirm. I will have to cut some hole in the rear parcel shelf to fit the lap sash (may as well do the retractable) and use the existing lap points. Thanks Dan

Dan,
I'll post a pic for you tomorrow when I have some light, its dark here now. And yes, you'll have to cut a hole in the rear shelf to run the belt through, it wasn't a big deal for me as I wasn't worried about keeping the shelf looking stock. I filled in teh speaker holes and recovered with some cheap perlon from the local auto parts store.

I took the bar out when my kids rode back there ![]() If you want to go the three point route, look under the pacel shelf to see if there are actory reinforced points to attach the shoulder straps. If not you should add some reinforcement in these areas to allow the installation of a nut (or threaded section) to screw the shoulder belt into. Otherwise you will be expecting a thin section of sheet metal to mange the force of a crash.

is your car registered for 4 passengers int he first place. mine was not, but that could have other reasons (later car, changes in regulation etc). what I mena is there could be a situation that you can't have more than 2 people in the car no matter what you do with the seat belts.
second point ( and you may have looked into that already) is why ot go with 3 point belts, I think the lap belts are more an excuse than a safety feature. unless you do what i did & put an anchor point on the rear shelf and add a harness, you can get them at kids / baby shops.

Either way, baby seat anchor or 3 point belt, (I've done both) he'll have to use the rear shelf as his mounting point. Should he reinforce it? Yes. However if the rational is that it isn't strong enough with fender washers to keep the mounting point from being pulled through in an accident, that is likely true for an adult, but my girls weight 40-45 lbs and that's consideribly less weight than an adult. I used fender washers and felt that it was safe enough to keep them in tact in the event of a minor accident. Not to start a rant but kids car/booster seats are pretty much a joke in this country to begin with. I've taken a very close look at many of them while trying to find the correct one for my 911 and what I look at is crap. There is no side impact protection and thats whats needed: basically all of them will work, if your child is seated properly, on a rear/frontal collicion. Basically what you need is to position your child so their body is in the same position as an adult and MAKE SURE THEY SIT PROPERLY (feet forward, butt in seat and facing forward) while driving and you should be OK. Infants and toddlers are a different story. I still use the "baby seat" with my 5 yr old and run the 3 point across her and the seat.
