A little OT '61 Carrera
Most of you guys probably know of this car and have probably seen it. But, upon a recent visit to Las Vegas, I did my usual visit of the Imperial Palace's car collection and found this absolutely gorgeous '61 Carrera Cab with a really interesting history. Took tons of pics ...stared (and drooled) over it for so long the security gaurd finally came over and offered to lower the barriers to the car so that I could get close to it and inspect to my hearts desire.
Which I did! Anyway..I have a few pics of the car and include one below as well as the content of the "show card". Enjoy Hope the image uplaod was ok! ![]() ![]() From the Show Card: 1961 PORSCHE CARRERA 2 CABRIOLET This vehicle was built in early 1961 for company Chairman, Dr. Ing Ferry Porsche, who was the son of the company founder Ferdinand Porsche. Among the cars appointments are many subtle features including a paint color that was not available on customer vehicles and special upholstery in a hounds-tooth pattern that later would be adopted for the subsequent 901 series. As Ferry Porsche often was chauffeur-driven, the dashboard ashtray was mounted on the passenger side to accommodate his smoking habit. Built as a special order prototype vehicle. Updated periodically with the latest from the company’s engineering department, this cabriolet features characteristics of both T-5 and T-6 bodies. The fuel filler access is of the later T-6 body, as is everything forward of the windshield. The most important “improvement” was the replacement by the R&D department of the car’s originally fitted 1600 CS engine with the very first of the new 2-Liter, 4-Cam Carrera Engines. Developed primarily for racing, 4-Cam engines were the most powerful Porsche engines of the time. This new engine, according to Dr. Porsche’s chauffer, saved embarrassment. , enabling them to keep pace on the German Autobahns with even the 12 Cylinder Ferraris and Lamborghinis from Italy. In 1965, Dr. Porsche released the car to the sales department, specifying that it was to go to a personal friend in Santa Barbara, California. Before being acquired by its restorer and current owner, #154626 had fewer than a half-dozen owners, each of whom provided excellent maintenance. With the willing assistance of the present-day Porsche management, California Porsche restorer Craig Stevenson, now living in Las Vegas, carried out meticulous and authentic three-year refurbishment that is certified accurate to the most minute detail. PRICE $275,000 |
