Where do you get one of those 1963 911s that the article mentions?

I still don't get it......costs 5X the cost of what amounts to be a common Garmin nav unit.....that works globally and can be reprogrammed yearly for updates....and can be pasted against the window ANYWHERE you want. I see this as another "rich-idiot" marketing scheme.

Upside....nice for it to fit neatly into the radio dash hole....sanitary install is always nice. Proper Porsche tax should be 2X market value equivalent...not 5x.

IMHO...of course...

It's not JUST a nav system. It's also a modern car stereo. Basically like what you would get in a modern car, just very condensed.

Well looking at factory nav units from Toyota, VW, etc, it looks like you're paying $1500 - $2k for an integrated nav option. Sure you could get a Garmin instead (and I have one in another car) but it's not nearly as clean. So you could argue that less than $800 msrp with a radio is half price. To each his own, but it doesn't seem out of line to me if you care about nice design (which, if you're driving an early 911, you probably do).

My 912 is radio delete for weight, so I'm not in line for one of these just yet. I certainly appreciate having this option, though.

Maybe more important, I'm impressed that the factory is actually making new products for our 40 year old cars. Sure it's self serving on their part, but it still seems a step in the right direction to me after years of the panamera and cayenne...

Thumbs up here, even if I'm not getting one.

Sorry....it still assaults my sense of value...especially for the small size screen that it *must* have to fit in the slot...and the fact that it faces you only perpendicular to the dash and the faceplate can't be rotated in any fashion to face *you*..and then retracted back in. All-in-all....the word that comes to mind is "severely compromised" for it to fit a radio slot space. Perhaps the world has gone insane as to what constitutes "value"..... I don't mind spending coin for truly superior or elegant items....but this seems silly and wasteful...to me anyway. Yep...to each his own.
