Engine back in car

Well the engine is back in the car as of half an hour ago. No real dramas and that with gearbox in I removed the fan and coil to do it. The clutch release fork did not pose any problems and there is a little play in it so confident that it is in the throw out bearing. Got all the top sides reconnected, tomorrow is clutch and exhaust fill with oil and start her up.

Wow! Clean engine. What work did you do to it? New clutch too?

Very nice and clean - please detail the work you did...

I have found a good way to make sure you have the throw out bearing engaged properly is to take a picture threw the inspection hole with a small mobile phone. The picture quality is not great, but you get in there nice and easy to see if it is all good or not - here is an example from my engine install that I did on Saturday...

kroggers,

The clutch release bearing's groove looks very clean. Aren't you suppose to put some grease in there? I've been told before to put some lube/grease when mating a 915 transmission to the engine. Anyone have a comment of this subject? Thanks.

Tony

You can not see it in the picture, but there is a very thin film of lube on the bearing and the arm. I was told not to put to much, as you do not want it to fly all over the place when the engine is running + the bearing does not spin, so why the need for loads of lubrication?

I might have been doing it wrong every time, but I have never put more than just a small amount every time I put it all together...

Kroggers I spied through the inspection hole to make sure it was engaging. Also did not use too much grease on throw out bearing as you say does not really move much. I am going to detail the work done soon including accurate costs I am so amped to start this thing up...

That works as well. I do the picture thing as I like to have a visual reminder that it was done and is OK - I am one of these people that get half way down the road and start to ask "did I lock the front door". So this way I can verify that it was all OK at a later point

I must admit that the post from Tony got me worried, so I had a look in the 101 projects book and the Bentley and neither state that the outside of the throw out bearing should be greased...

Looking great!

And thanks for the motivation, my engine has been apart for almost a year.
I really should get it back together.
