Porsche 911 Ignition Switch Lock
hi guys . I have 911 MY1968 which didn't come with the key.
I took door lock out and sent it away to locksmith so they made key for me. so key works fine in both door locks, but doesn't work in ignition and doesn't work in glove box lock. so I assumed that ignition lock will have an extra slider, I took ignition lock out , drilled out little pin, but still can't take lock cylinder out. any advice on how to take it out? so I can get to sliders? |

There's a circlip at the back of the tumbler which needs to be removed, then you can slide it out.
Make sure you put a key in there or you'll have springs flying out. |

Use a dental pick or something similiar to put in the keyhole and pull it out.

The problem is the barrel is trapped by the flat piece that turns the actual switch. I need to turn the barrel so it passes through the steering lock.

It's been a bit since I rekeyed my ignition, so I can't immediately address the issue of removing the ignition tumblers, but on the glove box...
with my car I received 2 keys, one for the ignition and one for the doors. neither worked in the glovebox or trunk release. I ended up rekeying the ignition (was replaced by PO) to work with the original key (door locks were original). I also disassembled the trunk and glovebox cylinders and found that they were actually keyed correctly to the door key, but need to be lubed. For your cylinders which do not work with your current key I would suggest trying to lube them to see if you just have some sticky tumblers. I personally like Tryflow. |
