Question deep six Fuchs.....

Hi,

I have the possibility to change a flat six for a deep six fuchs. I have a deep six as a spare and that wheel has the classic Porsche part number (901.361.012.06), the PD sign and Fox head. All in raised/cast letters.

The wheel I can obtain has all the markings, but these are not raised/cast, but stamped on the inside of the wheel.

I heared somewhere that early deep sixes have ink stamped numbers instead of the cast ones. Is this correct? I think it is, but just want to confirm it's the real deal. Does anyone know as of which date these fuchses where issued with the raised numbers? I have a october 69 with raised numbers.

Thanks!

Hessel

Hessel,
The only deep 6's I ever saw have cast stamps not ink stamps. Look at the inside area around the ring where the wheel covers mount to the wheel. It should give you a manufacture date showing month/year. That will indicate when they were made if they are real deep 6's. By the way you are describing them, I am guessing the one you are looking at is a fake. All of the early wheels I have ever seen are stamped into the metal, not an ink stamp.
By the way, I have a really nice pair of deep 6's here in Munich Germany I am looking to sell. Date stamps are 3/70 and 5/70 and both have hearts. They are literally perfect and have not been out of the box since the resto work.
PM me if you are interested in them and I can send pic's.
Good luck either way.

Hessel,
That looks like a Fuchs stamp. I have seen ink stamps infrequently on early (deep) 6X15s. I have also seen ink stamps on late (flat) 6X15s. All of the very early 6s (03) and 7Rs (05) that I have seen were ink stamped. Hope this helps.

Thanks!

So can i safely say that if it has the date stamp in the hub area, it is the genuine part?

Well, when you actually get Harvey to post his opinion on Fuchs, then there's your answer.

Can't imagine putting on a Fuchs stamp on a reproduction wheel.
What is the date BTW?

Don't know for sure, but it should be a '69 wheel. Haven't seen the wheel in person yet. So are the .03 deep 6 the same as the .06 ones? If there are differences, what might these be?

But thanks for the info! really appreciated!
