Do I need to get a different Oil Tank?

Hello Folks,

I recently picked up a used front Oil Cooler for Clown College. She is

76 Targa with 87 3.2 transplanted. I used Mark's 2.7 to 3.2 conversion

thread to do the transplant. She has been running well for some time

I have not let her get hot, very minimal driving time. I'm not sure but

I believe the cooler is for a 3.2, it's pretty big an it's not the trombone

type. Mark did a munch of butchering to his oil tank, but he used after

market stuff. Now mine has the original oil lines and thermostat. Do I

need to get a different oil tank or will this one work and do I need to

modify her. The original 2.7 had no front oil cooler. ANY help would be

great. I'll put a couple pictures of Clown College so you Folks can remember her.

Best Regards Preston

I'll get some pictures. The dry sump oil tank.Located at the right rear engine compartment,

just below the oil filter, this is where you put your oil. I know my writing skills suck but this

seems pretty obvious. My Targa only had the oil cooler attached to the rear of the engine,

and being in Texas with the 3.2 installed she needs a good additional external oil cooler.

The external oil coolers are mounted in the upper front fender well. Come on Guys I think

we are over complicating. I have not tried to mount it yet, so I thought I would ask before

I get into deep shyt . I'll get some pictures, this may be a simple plug and play but I don't

know for sure. Mark did some modifications to his oil tank, but again this after market stuff.
Again this is based on Marks 2.7 to 3.2 conversion thread.

It will take a couple of days to get pictures.

Regards Preston

If your tank is an original 76 tank the front cooler will bolt right up. The only problem is getting all the correct factory oil lines. Over the years there were a couple of different ways the oil lines connected from the engine to the tank and thermostat depending on what exhaust you are running.
Lots of info if you do a search.

Thanks Gordon! The cooler came with the lines and thermostat. Again I'm not sure what it's from. I think it's for a 3.2. The lines look like they are original cloth like exterior, typical older
Porsche stuff. Yes, everything is original to the 76 except the 87 Carrera 3.2. But everything
has been rebuilt. I have to get this done so I can give her a good run. I'll take picture of the
cooler and lines etc, and maybe you can tell what it came from?
