Deck Lid - drip pan

Since I may have had a "no start" condition on my "new" '74 911S, I am now kind of freaked out about moisture/water in the engine room. My 912 has a drip pan under the intake grill. However, I don't see one on the 911... at least not on mine. Question - should it have a drip pan?

I don't know, but I've often thought there should be a drip tray below the grille to channel water. Anyone have any pictures?

If the plug wires and distributor cap are in good shape, cover is in place over electrical console, you should not have problems. Drip tray could cause issues with air flow that cools the engine.

I have a rain tray that came with European delivered 911 here: Porsche 911 rain tray. I'm still looking for more information on it.

The 911 never got a rain tray. Only 912s and 912Es got it because the engine and distributor sits farther forward.

So that's the reason.

Thanks.

Thanks. I'm straight now. Is it supposed to attached to the engine lid like the one in the pictures or should it have the long spacers like the 912s?

Arrrgh!!! Just when I thought I had it figured out and submitted to it being a 912E rain tray, I saw it again on a '77 3.0L 911. It may not intend to function as a rain tray, but an air diverter?
