If it's a 2.7 your best bet is to replace it with a 3.0, 3.2 or , even better, a 3.6.
Sure, you COULD build a 2.7 but the cost to make any real power would not outweigh the basically "plug and play" of replacement. You can even use the stock 915 gearbox. For less $$$ you can buy a set of SSI heat exchangers(or headers if you don't need heat) and a performance muffler(m+k). Buying these bits new would probably run ~$1000.

Get rid of the CIS and run Webers instead. That's what I did, but I really didn't do it for performance, I did it because my CIS was possessed by Satan. Throttle response is much better with the Webers and nothing else internal to the engine needs to be changed, just the fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator. As a side benefit, the engine compartment is much cleaner and easier to work on stuff back there!

A 3.0 would be the next option. Most everything is the same and no eletronics to mess around with. What is your goal with this car? More importantly, what is your budget? it takes big $$ to make big HP from these engines.

When my 2.7 got tired and needed a rebuild it was the same money to throw a 3.6 in. Benefits are more power, updated ignition and fuel systems, more power, better reliability, more power. Plus the 3.6 has alot more power.
