3.2 + cis + ssi

Hello,

I have a 911 from 1974, engine 2.7 CIS and SSI exhaust system.

The engine runs well, K Jetronic is in very good condition, exhaust system is new (stainless steel DANSK), and clutch is new too.

But the magnesium case has problems, loose bolt, and head pull stud (cylinders 6 and 2) and a crack in the alternator bracket. By the moment is not blowing, but it has oil leaks in 5 cylinders, in the number 2 is a big leak and the oil drip over the exhaust (it is like a barbecue).

Instead of rebuilt the engine (here in Spain, do it well the cost would be 8.000€/10.000€) the mechanic garage gives me following option (cheaper):

In a 3.2 long block (used but in a very good condition) assemble my CIS and the SSI exhaust system.

I search in this forum, and read information about the 3.2 Moritz kit in a 3.0 case, but nothing about this “3.2+CIS+SSI engine”.

Is it a good idea? Problems?

Thanks in advance.

Enrique.

Garage
Just do a complete late 80's 3.2 swap...there have been dozens of threads on 3.2 conversions.

If it were me, I would not try to rebuild a 2.7L engine. I would rather have an aluminum case engine. And if you're going to move to an aluminum case engine, might as well get a 3.2 instead of just a 3L.

I wouldn't put a 2.7 CIS system on a 3.2. It might work, but almost any other option (Motronic, carburetors) would be better.

I had this exact combination a few years back, this was not a car that I built, I bought it like this.
The car was a 75, but had an 85's 3.2 longblock with the fuel injection from a 2.7, it did have ssi's., and a dual in single out muffler, msd ignition fired by the 2.7 dizzy.
The car was pretty quick , and revved real nice, but it did seem to run out of breath at about 5k. I don't think that the 2.7's fuel injection is quite enough to feed a 3.2. Euro 3.0 cis may be better suited for the task.
It will work ,but is not optimal.
If it were me, and I was writing the big check, I would take the above advice and do a 3.2 swap complete with motronic. , Or 3.6.
Or the other option would be to run carbs on that 3.2.

I say restore it, keep it original.
If you do the disassembling yourself, you can save out on some cash.
10 large seems steep, even for Spanish prices.
Ask around, shop around, I'm sure it can be a lot cheaper.
Only my 2 cents, nothing more.

How sure can you be that the 3.2 longblock is in good condition? Because the shop owner says so???????
Why does he offer you this less than ideal alternative, does he have the longblock lying around and does he needs to get rid of it????
It is even cheaper to drive it to Belgium (by itself or on a trailer) and having it fixed here. Under 8k easy.

You could try it and see how it goes.

If it's not up to snuff then replace the CIS system with and after market EFI.
Sounds expensive but there are economical ways of doing after market EFI.

This is one option. You could even use the 2.7 CIS as a base but the later 78 Euro CIS would be better.
Of course the ultimate would be to buy a 3.2 intake and use that with the "Bitz" system.
