1975 VIN Number
I was hoping you guys could help me. I think I screwed up and purchased a lemon. I purchased a 1975 911 that was supposed to be a lightweight European version. I believe that's not possible.
Here is the VIN number 9115210296 Here is the engine serial number 6450765 I believe this is a US 911, not a European version, much less a lightweight European 911. I think it has a 165 HP engine. Can anyone tell me if this is the original engine? The speedometer and odometer are in metric. Have they been switched to make the vehicle look European? Does this mean the miles are really unknown? Thank you very much for you help! ![]() |

You were lied to. VIN is for a 1975 U.S. 911S Targa and that is the correct engine for that year. I will refrain from commenting on the add on bodywork.

show pics of engine
i have 75 targa with a 2.7l engine
if the updates were done on your engine it should be fine. The 2.7l is maligned because it is magnesium and pulls head studs. but if the engine has any mileage it has to have been redone. If has the required upgrades it will last a long time and you will enjoy it. the additional body panels look like they add some ground effects and cooling to the back brakes. not a bad idea. the 75 are light cars to begin with, I am not sure what they mean by European light weight, was there such a car? My CIS engine was redone and makes quite a bit more thatn 165 hp, yours may also. the car looks in great shape you will have fun with it.

I think they made it up. There are lightweight versions, but I don't believe there were any produced in 1975. I think it was 73 to 74

Well, technically it is a European Car by origin, and technically what the above poster mentioned seems to be regularly touted that our '75's are pretty lightweight compared to the later cars......
![]() I understand being aggrivated by feeling you bought something that was misrepresented, and probably moreso if you paid a premium for it, but does look like a fairly nice car if it runs well and you like the FG bodywork. Enjoy it and chock it up to experience

Metric gauges could even be from Canada.
I don't think there is a way to tell on those early cars if it's European like there is on the later cars. Hard to see, but it looks like a Euro lens in the rear taillight, but those are easy to swap. Looks like FG turbo 930 flares with 'different' rockers. It's a 930 front spoiler, it looks like. Look to see if there are thermal reactors underneath. Does it have an 11 blade cooling fan or the 5 blade. |

LtWt. Euro version? I think not. I hate sellers who misrepresent their stuff.
But... this could be the beginnings of a pretty cool car. Hopefully the chassis does not have much rust and the interior is not goobered up or Miami Viced. Lose the IROC tail, rockers, and big black front bumper spoiler. Get some Fuchs to fit the wheel wells and you have a pretty neat little targa widebody - and in a cool color.

It's lightweight. All that fiberglass was probably good for a drop of 80lbs...

If anyone is interested, it's for sale!
I just found out that the manufacture date is stamped on the speedometer. This vehicle has one manufactured in 1997! This vehicle has unknown miles. I am going to have fight with the dealer that sold me those one! |
