Need some help: what size circlip is it that is just behind the steering wheel
Hey all...
I did a dumb thing. I lost the circlip that fits behind the steering wheel on the steering column and I need to know it's size so that I can replace it. I'm hoping to find out asap so that I can get my car running today instead of waiting all weekend after orsering from pelican (sorry guys). This is not the star clip, but the one that pinches the steering wheel hub between the steering column nut. Thanks. I'm hoping that I can go to a FLAPS and get one so I guess o.d, I.d, and thickness is what I need to ID it correctly? Is that right? Thank you so much in advance! Michael |
Is it the "wave" washer that goes directly under the hub nut?

No... It's the circlip that is behind the steering wheel on the steering column. The one you have to remove first in order to install Mitch leland's bushing.

Sorry, I can't help but I'll bump the post.
I don't think mine even has this clip. |
Michael,
I would measure the cir-clip groove and call your Auto Zone parts house to see if they carry metric cir-clips. It's fairly thick so that is the other consideration. Hopefully you have a veneer calipers for measuring... Unfortunately the PET only shows a P/N. P.S. I guess if you were desperate as a temporary fix you could get several thinner cir-clips (snap rings) and stack them on the steering shaft groove until your Pelican order arrived. |
Thanks Mitch,
yah, nobody I tried over the weekend had anything useful. So right now I have a car with one eye and no steering wheel. The shop I go to now ordered me a couple of them on friday, so he should have em tomorrow. So hopefully I can finish that project. I appreciate the support you've given. It's a great product... I just can't wait to finally USE it! Heh Michael |
