I have a 1970 targa. Should i backdate to original or leave as is.

I guess what he ment was "bring back to Long hood looks". in garage pics it is updated to Short hood..........

Tried to find pictures of your car but was not successful, so I'll assume someone has "updated" the car to a short hood? Possibly a slant nose or other "newer" look? Is that correct? I guess the answer would depend on your preference but as to resale, backdating to original look would certainly add to the value, IMO. Personally, I bought a long hood because of the look and so, I think, do most long hood owners. It will probably depend on the kind of money you plan to put into the car and whether or not you care about going upside down on your "investment" but from scanning your posts trying to find a pic, it looks like you want to make this car worthy of your time and efforts and there is a bit of work to do. If it's coming down to sheet metal and restoration, I'd say go back to the original look--it's a better long term goal for a 70 long hood.

edit: as I was typing, someone else posted where to find the pic. It's now a short hood, turbo look. My vote is now definite--go back!

This means that he has a 70 Targa that has been modified to appear like a newer, later model 911. He is asking if he should restore it back to original condition or leave it as is.

Is it worth spending the $$$ to change it back? No offense intended but the cost should be considered at least.

In the end, it's YOUR car and you should do what makes you pleased.

Don't change a thing! The next hot Porsche fetish will be poorly "Updated" Longhoods with worn out original matching number engines and irreversible body and interior modifications. Remember when owners were scrapping 4-cam engines, and a rusted out SWB 911S was considered a lawn ornament in a trailer park? It's only a matter of time before this car will be a Barret-Jackson heartbreaker!

Well ive had lots of opinions but considering i would spend an incredible more amount to backdate im going to make it the way i want. Did i mention that the updating was done in germany by porsche before i purchased the car? I have tons of reciepts in german that i cant even read. The work was done to specs quite some time ago and age has taken its toll and the resto the way it is now would be a lot cheaper since i am doing all of the body and engine work myself. In time i am going to install a turbo engine. My lack of knowledge before i bought the car is my fault. This is the style of porsche i wanted but didnt know 1970 model didnt look like this originally. keep the inputs coming, i can take the abuse. Thanks for all of the help pelican forum has given me.

You're talking quite a bit of money to bring that back to longhood specs. I only painted my targa bar black and I cringe at all the work to reverse it to stainless.

Done by Porsche in Germany, cool. Are the flares steel? take a magnet to them and let us know.

If you put in a turbo motor, or a 3.6, also consider that you need to upgrade the brakes (if not done already) and possibly the suspension.

Barrett-Jackson heartbreaker meaning that a car that was once not considered desirable will be sold for a high price years later. An example being my friend selling a Dodge Daytona Charger in 1975 for $2,500 because it was in fact a POS, but currently the same car would sell at Barrett-Jackson for six-figures. Your car being modified at "Porsche" only adds to the possibility that it will be a sought after "rare" example of this "Update" fever. You never know what strange twists will occur in the Porsche fetish mind or market.

So you can't read German but you are convinced it was done by the Porsche factory?.....

So.....obvious question--> did you have this text translated by an unbiased and trustworthy source...or did someone hand you German papers and "tell you" it was done by Porsche factory?
