Is there a book of numbers???

Ok I am fairly new to Porsches and instead of asking a million questions every time I see a car is there a book that decodes the vin??

In the musclecar world you can decode a vin, trim tag or engine number. I am looking for a book that would list all the numbers. I see guys on here and the "S" site spitting out numbers left and right.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

VIN: http://members.rennlist.com/imcarthur/vin.htm
There's also a place to look up Option Codes but I'm not finding it right now.
There are books you can buy as well.

Wanna930,

Look for the Red Book by Patrick C. Paternie for Porsche 911 (1965-1999). I find this booklet very informative and useful in VIN #and engine # identification. HTH.
