Welcome to one of hte best Porsche BBS's on the planet. It would be great to see a picture of your ride and add your location to your profile.

Which relays are you referring to? The aftermarket ones to prevent you from burning out your stalk or the one (relay 50 below) that Porsche put in (in your trunk behind the OEL Gauge) to control which lamps will be powered when?

You can see how the lamps are wired in this diagram:

Bob. I have a 73.5 911T and it did not have any headlight relays. I did installed two relays, one for low and other for high. Works beautiful.

Most Porsche's don't come from the factory with relays. Something about Porsche letting apprentice journeymen work and design their electrical circuits, it seems... :(

Another electical "funny" thing Porsche does?....not just lack of fuses and no relays?....how 'bout cruise control systems that when they fail....they don't fail "off".....they fail "high" ( who says Germans don't have a sense of humor?)

What year? Early cars had a headlight switching relay under the driver side wooden floor board above the pedal cluster.

Harry has done a lot to help people with this. Check out this link if you are having problems with headlights. The relay in the diagram is behind the oil gauge, but is not usually the problem. There is also a link with some great info on repairing the light contacts. I also intalled the relay kit Pelican sells. It is not targeted to the '73 and earlier cars, but is easy to adapt to them. Takes a load off of the failure prone contacts.
