SC Window Motor

After much troubleshooting of wiring and switches on my '83 SC, finally pulled my dead passenger side electric window motor out of the door tonight. I hooked it up to 12V, and nothing. So, took the motor completely apart, put it back together, and it then worked (though it seemed to work better in one direction than the other when I reversed + and -. Put it all back together, and it rolled down just fine, but on the way back up, it stalled. I was able to get it to go back down, but it only made it about 3 inches back up, and now it is dead again.

Looks like a new motor is only $100, so no big deal, but wondering if it is possible to fix the motor? I found a thread last night when searching that talked about this, but now I can't find it. It looked like new when I opened it up, though it had that "ozone smell" to it.

I think the writing is on the wall, but just thought I would throw this out there before I drop $100. Thanks.--DDD

Try wiring up another ground from the motor to somewhere on the door. I had a similar problem several years ago and adding another ground solved it.

I read a lot about bad grounds for this motor, but I tried running a new ground when it was in the car, and nothing. The fact it wouldn't work when hooked up to 12V outside of the car until I dismantled and reassembled it tells me it is just in bad shape. The fact that it works one direction and not the other also tells me I don't have a ground problem.

Thanks for trying to help though. Looks like I need a new motor. --DDD
