oops

I've only been on this board for a few weeks and It has helped me alot. I've alwasy been the type to figure things out for myself, but this board allows one to check the archives for info and then ask away. Sometimes even if you know what you want to do it is nice to get feedback and everyone here is great about that, good honest feedback. I started on another board also, and noticed a few flamers on there, I'm very happy this one is so clean and holesome with some apple pie.

And as a vet with two generations of vets behind me I want to thank those who willingly put their lives on the line for the freedom that so many take for granted. Thank You

Dennis Holler:)

This board is GREAT! I live in Spokane WA not really the Porsche capital of the world. This board gets me Stoked to do updates and mods to my car. The inforamtion is great!, the people are great!, and the CARS are great, and botom line I would not be as "into" Porsches without this board! just my 2 cents

Ok, I'll chime in:
I must say that I probably spend too much time on this board (don't tell my boss! )
There is a wealth of information available: tons of technical help! Great discussions on all things Porsche (and some things not Porsche!)
The friendships here are great. On the Northeast side, we're going to have an informal meet this weekend (Saturday: 1-19 1:00pm at Chili's on Rt. 17 in Ramsey, NJ). Can't wait.

I am fortunate that my chapter of PCA is also excellent, so I have the best of both worlds!

And to top it off, the 911 guys don't beat me up when I lurk around in their forum.... :p

Thanks for this wonderful board, Wayne!

I spend a decent amount of time on several boards for my random interests (radio control ducted fan jets, Vettes, Watches e.t.c.) and this board definitely takes the cake. Without this board I probably wouldn't have my '88. Reading how reliable they are in monthly PORSCHE magazines is one thing, but actually communicating with people who actually drive these cars on a daily basis and maintain them is another thing all together. You guys gave me the balls to pull the trigger, and I am glad I did. My only issue is that for some reason whenever I see an SC on the road I wonder if I am missing something with my heavy 88 :). Also, being a younger owner its great to find a group where the median age is a bit lower than the normal PCA crowd....

Jordan

I have to chime in as well. Its the help center of the Porsche world. Everyone who has been around Porsche knows of Pelican and this fantastic service Wayne has provided. Kudos must go out to those who make Pelican happen and the efforts of Wayne who has done nothing but keep improving upon the quality, let alone the techincal repair input. Porsches are affordable to maintain now thanks to a collective group of folks who are so willing to pass on lessons learned and expertise gained.

I will leave with this Pelican experience I have mentioned in prior threads.............Thirteen strangers bound only by this website and the love of Porsches, met along a Georgia highway, took a ride in the beautiful mountains, had a wonderful picnic in a state park followed by dinner, and continued on their way, all delighted and enriched by the experience.

That exemplifies what this site represents and I am proud to be among you.

I go on the board at work as a stress reliever. One quick look gets my mind off all the crap at work and takes me where I want to be-working on my Pcar. The info exchanged is amazing. Has any topic not been discussed? Finally the personal computer is good for something other than work.

Some of you may be familiar with Robert Putnam's book "Bowling Alone." The theme is that there has been a tremendous decline in collective social activity since the 1950s when (at least in Putnam's perhaps mythical image of the past) we spent pur spare time going to league bowling meets, Rotary Club meetings, Boy Scout funding drives, PTA activities etc. Now all we do is "bowl alone." I wonder if he would argue that the obsession many of us have with checking this BB several times a day is another example of "bowling alone," and the decline of civic life in America. On the other hand, we are actually interacting with each other, albeit at a distance, so perhaps it is a counter example to his arguement. We are actually bowling together, but just at a distance. Perhaps the flaw in Putnam's thesis is that you do not need face to face contact to engage in group activity any more.
Academics sometimes have a marvellous ability to be brilliantly wrong.

I'd also like to thank Pelican as well as the extremely generous (and patient) folks on this board. As a "mechanically declined" Porsche owner with 2 p-cars and more tools than common sense, you folks have been far more helpful than you probably realize.

Thanks again,

Gotta chime in and second everyone else's AWESOME kudos to this board. What a wealth of info available, at just a couple of clicks of the mouse! I go here during lunch hour for a diversion, and frequently 'overstay' my hour. Even if I don't have a particular problem at the time, there sure is a lot of knowledge to be gleaned just from reading all the posts (and tech articles, and yes, Wayne's marvelous book)!
Thanks to all who contribute, I only wish I could help others more!

This board has been a real help to discuss issues and learn from other's experiences. I am sure that the discussions and tips presented on this board have saved everyone thousands of dollars in repairs primarily by allowing us to do things right the first time around! I am very much indebted to those who have shared their experience with Porsches with me and thanks to Pelican for hosting this site.

Regarding the social interaction perspective, I think this site has gotten a lot of people together. Kurt Starnes hosted a very nice get-together at his house recently in San Diego and it seems that others have gotten together for similar events. It may be that this board is the genesis of a new Porsche club -- enjoying our cars, sharing information and getting together as time allows without any elections or other politics!

Thanks to those who have helped me and I hope some of the stuff I have passed along has helped others.

Rich
