Rear Brake lights stopped working on 84 Carrera

MY rear brake lights on my 1984 Carrera stopped working. I have narrowed it down to the two switches at the master cylinder. Does any one know of a link or thread that gives directions/instruction on how to correctly replace both. If I go to remove the switchs will brake fluid leak out from Master Cylinder? Also on parts list here on Pelican states might need to get an adapter if you have an early Carrera when ordering switches. Would a Carrera with a production date of 7/84 need the adapter? Thanks for any help out there.

On my 87, the switches I bought on Pelican had the wrong prong spacing. Rather than make an adapter, I checked the Advance Auto and walked out with the right one. Had very little/no leakage when I removed the switch from the MC housing.
I only replaced the bad switch, not both. You can check with a cheap multimeter if someone will press the brake for you. Wanna buy my "wrong" switches, they're sitting on the parts shelf. I think they are a "wide space" vs the narrow that was on the car.

Thanks for the reply. Already checked to know electricity is getting to the switches by cross wiring the cap that attaches to the switches so thats why figure its got to be switches themselves. Also failed to mention I have the two prong type. Don't know if I have the narrow or wide version, how can you tell?
