Gray market 1984 Carrera rear light

Have a great market 1984 911 with a red rear light below the bumper on the driver's side. What is it for?

It's a rear fog light. Common in Europe. It should only light up with the front fogs.

The fog light switch may be a two-stage switch (similar to rear defogger/defroster).
Pull for front fogs on, right/left for rear.

All Euro spec cars must have a rear fog light, if its a 'gray' you should have 2 fog switches like this, green = front, yellow = rear

If mine is on, people always tell me that I have a tail light out. Another reason to be pulled over too. I just leave it off, and I don't think I've driven mine in the fog.

My Euro (through Belgium) has only one switch, as steve says. To turn on the rear fog, you rotate it. Cheers

Yeah probably, mine is an 85, later models also have two fogs at the back instead of the one I have. Cheers
