Does everyone have a price? AKA What would you take for your baby?
I have often thought about, and am frequently asked if I would sell my car. Mostly people gust curious as to how deep my addiction runs- occasionally someone with genuine interest. My answer is almost always that everything has a price, this car being no exception, but my price is more that likely more than the car is really worth. With that in mind, what is your price? How much would you just have to sell your car for if offered?

I honestly don't know what the price would be. I only know the highest serious offer I turned down. That was $45K.

Of course I'd sell, at the right price. All possessions are disposable and their prices negotiable.
Carnut, as far as your price being more than the car is worth - maybe not. Who knows, maybe there's somebody else out there looking for your car and is just as prone as you once were to falling in love. Not that you're going to go around advertising it

I'm asked this a lot, since it's obvious I'm fond of the car. Thing is, it's an SC! There are tons of them around! In that the car is special at all, it's special to me and I have a feeling the next one would/will be special as well. I'd definitely sell the puppy to get a 1972 911E targa in silver and black, a 1989 930 turbo in triple-black, or a Gemballa Boxster with 993 turbo in black/black or silver/red with optional hardtop. And that's for starters - there are a lot of Porsches out there, and I'd like a chance to fall in love with all of them :-)

How about this, how much would you pay for your own car? I paid $18,500 from a dealer for my '86 Carrera in 1996. It was a clean trade-in with 136,000 miles (all service was done at this same dealer) a fair price for the market at that time in the SF Bay Area - if not a bargain at the time!
She now has 167,000 miles and I have had basically zero problems. The only issues right now are that my power seats stopped working a few weeks ago, the high setting on my heater doesn't work (those two related?) and I will be needing a clutch job in the near future (been saying that for about three years now!). If I were in the market and knew that what I was buying was exactly what my car is - I would still give $18,500+ knowing that there would be no hidden surprises. If I were to sell it (hard to even comprehend that one), I think I could be bought at the $20-22k range. With 167K miles, at $22k, most would say that is over priced. JrDavid68 |

Buy them, sell them

Hmmmm..
I seriously doubt I could part with mine. I've decided that when I buy another one, I'll keep this one too...

I have been asked the same question many times. Three times this winter someone has offered me between $20,000 and $23,000 for may rebuilt and modified 81 SC. The thing is, I am in the car now about $30,000. I bought the car for $16,500 in 2000. That included a full rebuild on the engine and tranny, as well as some new C2 fenders, rockers, and RS America tail. I have done every thing from brakes, to exhaust, to light weight carpet, and the suspension work I am doing now. The insurance company has the car insured for $28000. It all adds up fast, and the car is better than anything I have driven (save a 82 modified Euro Turbo 911).
Bottom line, I would sell it for $27,000 or more. I love the car, but I also love doing the work to take a car from the run of the mill 911, to something that is great looking and has the performance to match.

Carnut. I don't know who you are, and I don't care, but you don't deserve that car.
That's my preciousssss you have in your garargess bagginsses. NICE! I can't believe I'm saying this, but with the color of your car, those 964 rims totally work on that 3.2! Sweet ride mate.

i would never sell my car. my grandpa bought it brand new in 1970 and has passed it down to me to restore. i wouldn't take a million dollars 4 it. it might need alot of work and might drain my money from my wallet but i still smile everytime i look at it.

I would sell my car in a heartbeat, and might sell it to get a new Mini Cooper S this spring. I like Porsches a lot in general, but not inextricably attached to my particular car. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice one and I like it, but it is 100% replaceable. Actually I would get one that I like even better.
There are some nice pictures of cars in this thread, but with prices mentioned, might as well just say, "not for sale".

No less than $23K. Sure I could buy another, but I would build it exactly the same. My time is worth more than anything, and I have plenty of time into my baby.

I like my P-Car but nothing's forever. $12,000.... and my P-Car would be sleeping in a new garage and I would be looking for another p-car.

No intent to sell it, EVER, but I might consider an even trade with Roger Penske for his somewhat historically significant 917-30, or maybe Paul Allen's 959 ... but forget little Billy Gates car, as he has had a propensity for running cars out of oil in the past!
Or, a trade for any of the race cars previously owned by Vasek Polak!
