resolving the first gear where my knee was?

I just finished installing one of my new seats (corbeau trs) using a homemade base bracket. after thinking about it i decided to off center the seat 1.5" from the center of the steering wheel because i hated how first gear was right where my knee was. it dosent look to bad or feel to bad but, now my right heel is almost inline with the brake pedal.

i was just wondering how others overcome the dumb first gear issue?

Are you talking about a 901 transmission? What year car?
In my 71 I use a short shift kit and new shifter bushings and a solid shift coupler.
I have my race seat as close to the tunnel as possible and no shifter interference.
