Removing driver's side knee pad
Has anyone successfully removed the driver's side knee pad? I think I have found the retaining nuts, but short of removing the light switch, ignition key and the entire wiring harness, I cannot see how to get a wrench in there, much less turn it.
Any help is appreciated. Seth

remove the left side vent to get to one of the nuts. sometimes that's tough if you can't spring out the air deflector, finger around under the dash (right side for another) i found a 1/4 inch drive with socket on a medium extension worked.
i don't recall if there are 2 or 3 nuts to remove off the top of my head. this worked on my 77 and seems to be common

There are 3 nuts. Yes, the vent has to come out - which in itself is a challenge. Access is very tight on the other nuts (I have a RHD car but assume its very similar), but I also had success with a 1/4 inch ratchet and various little and longer extension pieces.

Does this technique work on pre 85.5 cars, when the side vents became something reasonable and not just two tiny slits pretending that they were worthwhile?

Thanks gentlemen
The vents do seem to be their own special nightmare, but I now have at least a new path to try that I did not before. What kind of sadist do you suppose thinks these things up in the first place? Seth
