Dimensions of Hella 118 driving light?

Does anyone know the dimensions of the Hella 118 driving light?

I'm looking to add supplementary driving lights to my '73 but can't afford the original 118s. I'm considering either the PIAA 520 chrome series (6 3/8 dia x 2 3/8 deep) or the Hella Chrome 160 chrome series (6 1/2 x 2 5/8).

I don't really like cut/ look of the H 160 lens and prefer the PIAAs though their nearly 3x the cost.

Would a 6 3/8 diameter be much larger than the original 118s? It's hard to tell from the 118 pics I've seen.

Also, the mounting kits are still avail. through Porsche but not the special horn grills. Anyone have any ideas of where to get them? I'm thinking of getting a 2nd set of 'normal" horn grills and neatly cutting them to allow for the mounting hardware.

Hi Phoenix,
Here you go, Hella 118s. I have a few pairs of these for sale, btw.

Hella 118's

The horn grills have been unavailable for a few years now...pain in the %#@ for those needing the chrome ones.

However, you indicate that you have a 73, which typically came with the black plastic horn grills. The factory version of the black plastic grill for the 118's just had the center "bar" removed...not "carved" like on the chrome metal version.

So, just cut out the center bar, and you're good to go! If you want to run the chromes...then you'll probably have to "cut and rechrome" an original set.

regards,
Eric

Thanks George. 130mm woudl be roughly 5.1" so size wise the Hella 160s would be closer. I'm still leaning towards the PIAAs as I believe they are far more effective and look better too. (What are you looing to get for the set your selling?)

Great tip Soterik!! I have black grills and plan to keep it that way. I can get new ones from Perf. Prod. (-205 this week!) and cut them. This way I'll still have the originals should I ever decide to "go back".

I just love this forum!!
