Delete aar and decell valve?

I am thinking of deleting the AAR and Deceleration valves and Just having the cold idle air valve. Anyone do this with out a problem? 1980 911 SC 3.0L

Hello,
I did this on my 80sc after my rebuild...got rid of all the emission stuff....My rpm's fall fast and wen the engine is cold the car will die. That's the only bad side affect..... Haven't had time to do all the fuel pressure tests yet though.

I've had mine with and without, with seems to be much nicer when driving around town. Having a nice subtle idle drop coming to stoplights is nice.

Besides a wast of time, no real advantage, plus you might be introducing driveability problems.

Thanks it will stay.

I took the whole assembly off. The early cars didnt have it, and on JW's advice, i scrapped mine on the 82 3.0 in my 75. Get a hand throttle from an early car and you dont need any of it.. Just leaks waiting to happen, the decel valve is a joke, aar sticks all the time. Removing these things will help with your driveabilty.

+1 this is the best answer to your question.

Is it possible that a car that spends all its time in a hot climate won't need the AAR at all? I think I've read that someone (maybe RarlyL8?) removed his and has no problems.

The dcecl valve has been eliminated by many owners. The only effect is that revs fall quicker between shifts.

My take is that these are the Appendix of the 911, if they aren't causing problems why mess with them. When they start to act up it doesn't seem to do any harm to get rid of them all together.

My Decel Valve was sticking recently causing a 2k rpm, took the advice to bypass it and been driving a week with it acting fine again. I notice that now the rpms dump down for half a sec then bounce back to 900 or so in traffic. Different but not adverse. I'll get rid of the AAV too if it begins to rear it's attitude.

....I have a '75 with a hand throttle that's disconnected due to my '78 engine. A comment above made me wonder if I should look into re-hooking that up?

with the hand throttle, you can get rid of all this.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1287518573.jpg
and things are easy to get to, and it looks better i think.

I don't suppose you would mind giving a brief primer on where the hand throttle hooks to (on the engine, I have the pulley by the heater pulls) and how to properly operate it. I certainly wouldn't mind ridding my engine bay of some more clutter and aging devices that are questionably working.

....No, I do NOT have an owner's manual :D

the easy way is take out the pass. seat, remove e brake console, and if you have llittle tiny hands, you can hook and adjust the little plastic clip back on to the throttle rod. BUT....the plastic clip is prob. broke, as most are. last time I checked PP had two in stock.

Allen if you set you timing back where the Germans wanted it (not where uncle sam made them put it) dying at idle after let off will go away.
