Cibie H4s with Parking Lights ?

I have searched the site (and learned one heck of a lot about lighting...), but I didn't see many photos of headlights with parking lights.

I'm considering upgrading from my sugar scoop sealed beams and am thinking a Cibie H4 with parking light would look very nice.

Does anyone have any pictures to share of their lights with parking lights?

FWIW, I have a 1985 targa.

Thanks in advance.

Swoboda

I think you mean "Bosch" ( aero style) with the embedded parking lights....right?

If you have the factory manuals. you will see how the wiring is different for the Euro and US cars...and how the parking lights are used/wired.

From what I have seen online, I'm sure Bosch sells something similar.

The lights I'm referencing are on Daniel Stern's website.

I'm hoping for some pictures (Bosch, Cibie, or others with parking lights) in order to see if that's worth considering for my car.

Thanks.

The Cibie's with the 'parking lights' (City Lights) are hard to find. They fit in the Sugar Scoop mount.

The Bosch are readily available, here, ebay, etc. but they are the 'Euro' H4's that do not fit in the Sugar Scoops. They are a different configuration and look like the H1's and H5's.

The parking lights are called "City Lights". Many European cities forbid headlights at night in the city and you must use the City Lights.

Bosch, Hella and Cibie also make an H4 that fits in the Sugar Scoop mounting, but most don't have city lights.

Adding city lights to the bottom of any housing is pretty easy because they don't need a dedicated reflector and the socket is pretty simple. Wire it off the parking light.

I have H4s with powerful bulbs so I use the city lights a lot at dusk and in daylight rain to not blind other drivers in the city and make the bulbs last longer. They goal is other people seeing you, not projecting a beam down the road when doing 80mph.

Use of City light only, legality, varies state to state...

m110, would you mind posting a picture of your headlight with parking light?

All the Bosch Euro H4's have them. It looks like a very dim headlight... they're only 5 watts, compared to 55/60 watts for a regular headlight.

No pics but I ran these for a while. Liked them a lot. Cibies are the best H-4's out there. The parking light is inside the glass unit as you know; when they are on they simply look like a small bulb is lighting up the unit. I have one of these (without H4 bulb) you can have for $15 plus shipping if you'd like. It was new from Stern about a year ago.

You can always get the lights with out the city light and add these. they just sandwich between the reflector and the bulb.

There is a difference between ¨Parking Lights¨and ¨City Lights¨
Parking lights are used in Europe when parking at night you turn them on using the left or right turn signal switch when the engine is off.
City lights are used in the city at night in certain countries.

My 63 bug had City lights. When I customized it back in the day, I used the City light with a yellow bulb as my blinkers, shaved the fenders and lost the big old signals on top of the fender. Probably lessened my drag coefficent by a number of points......

City lights to be used "as blinkers" is ridiculous as they would be completely overpowered by the main lights ( when "on")....and one wouldn't be able to see the "blinkers" due also to the close location to...not just the brightness of... the main headlights.

You also use them for parking. Many cities in Europe simply are out of parking spaces.

When you park to eat dinner you park next to the parked cars in the street. You leave your "city lights" on that show that you are in the street so that people can drive around the cars.

The small watt bulb does not run your battery down so you are ready to go when you come out after dinner.

JoeBob....

Point well taken.....I simply thought you were still promoting that change now, ...sorry. Wanted simply to emphasize to others reading this (today) not to attempt this on their 911's as a way around fitting turn signals,as it wouldn't function as intended.

No worries Wil.....glad I had my Cibies, pilots and H4s on while driving home. 4+ bucks with trailing does were attempting to cross the road. They got one look at my retina burners and turned back off the road.
