Oddysey Battery Question

Ive noticed a few folks running the Oddysey PC 680 AGM sealed batteries. Of course all that I have seen are using it when the battery is relocated to the AC Evap box, and all are pretty much track type cars only. Has anyone used this battery for everyday street type applications in a 911?

Ive used the same exact battery in my Goldwings for over a decade, and never had a problem. However, even though its alternator puts out 1300w it has no where near the electrical load that a car does.

Works fine everyday. Enough CCA to turn over my Carrera on a cold fall Midwest morning. Go for it.

The PC680 works great for street applications in SoCal weather.

+2 Go for it.

Agreed with Souk..been using mine for 3years now..perfect even on a cold CO day, I just throw a charger on it for a few hours to bring the voltage to a min of 12V if the car has been sitting for a while (which my car does alot).

It made me happy to shed the 38lb Interstate battery that originally resided in my car..I gave it to the owner of a oil tanker to start his ship every morning.

Alt if you want a little more juice go for the 915. That's what I did (live in Sweden) and it works great. A little heavier than the 680 though.

Thanks for all the feedback guys....I thought it would, but wanted to hear for sure from those that have proven it....Will be nice to have a bit of room to store some stuff as well vs that Monster Sears Euro Battery.

4+ years on mine, 1/3 of it daily driving.

I recommend a Battery Tender and/or a battery cutoff switch if you have anyelectrical items (clock, alarm, etc.) that draw current with the key off and you park it for a week or more at a time.

BTW, Summit has a neat stamped aluminum battery holder that fits just fine in the same space as the stock battery.

Edit to say: Summit apparently no longer carries these. See below for other suppliers.

Bob

Bob.f do you have a summit part number for the battery hold down?
And does it mount in smugglers box or original location?

Weird. I can't find it in Summit's catalog, or Jeg's, and they both used to carry it.

These guys all have them:

Odyssey battery aluminum hold down

Odyssey Drycell Battery PC680 Hold Down Bracket - JDM Honda Parts USA - JHPUSA

Odyssey PC680 battery hold down box

It can be fit to any flat surface. I have seen them in the smuggler's box, but it requires a little bending of the bracket, not a big deal.

Here's a picture. I hope.

I built a simple box out of aluminum channel that fits the factory battery mount, w/ no drilling required.

Very pleased with the PC-680, but make sure your charging system is good and your car starts easily. It's even better when you have the IMI lightweight starter, agree on using the charger when it's parked for a week or two.
