915 Axles into early hubs

Can you use 915 axles(1980) and stub axles in early 911 hubs (69-73).

I don't think so. Here's what I do know...

When I updated my '69E to aluminum trailing arms from a '76, I had to use '76 stub axles to prevent them from interfering with the trailing arms. The change in the stub axles also necessitated my having to update to '76 axles as well as the inner stub axles which go into the transaxle. To make the inner stub axles work, I had to have them machined down by 1mm.

So they are different. Stub axles are pretty cheap from a scrap yard, so it may be worth while to get one and try it on for size.
