disconnect clutch cable
![]() ![]() I'm prepping my 72 911 for engine drop. It happens to have a 71 engine with a 901 tranny. I'm trying to disconnect the clutch cable. I loosened up the adjustment nuts so there is as little pressure as possible but can't see how you actually disconnect the cable from the clutch fork - no obvious connectors seen. Thanks for your help |

Lifted from the Pelican Tech Forum on 911 Engine Removal:
Loosen the nut that holds and adjusts the clutch cable. You should be able to disconnect the clutch cable end and remove the clutch cable out of the way. Now, remove the small return spring that helps remove the backlash from the linkage. Make sure that you disconnect and remove the spring, because it will most likely get lost. Now, remove the small circlip on the small lever arm. Slide this arm off its shaft using a small screwdriver. Once this arm is off, the main arm assembly should be able to be slid off. Beware of the 'U-shaped' clutch arm helper spring, as this is loaded pretty tight, and will spring back when you pull off the arm. The tech forum has photos to explain each step. Hope this helps. |

Thanks. I have the book and have read this. Mine is an older, simpler version. All I have to do is directly disconnect the cable from the fork but how?

I just pulled the motor and tranny from my 70T Sunday morning. I had to remove the entire clutch cable to get it out of the transmission. I am assuming you have the same transmission as me 70-71. There is the round loop built into the side of the transmission that prevents you from just removing it at the transmission. You have to disconnect the cable at the pedal assembly, in the tunnel to the right of the gas pedal. Then you have to take the U shaped clamp off of the cable so it can slide through the tunnel. It should slide all of the way out through the back of the car at that point. Hope this makes sense.

Thanks Kirk!!
This helps a lot. Everything I read in various manuals said "disconnect clutch cable, a simple chore". - not so much. Dave |
