Star Tron (Enzyme ?) Fuel Treatment
So, since I am riding aircooled bikes(BMW),and the topic of the new (pending?)15% Ethanol legislation came up at a recent trip to the local moto dealer,he gave me a bottle of this stuff to try.
It says it is the miracle cure for ALL your engine problems !! right there on the label. Does anyone know what this "enzyme" treatment is ?? What will it do to the fuel distributor/system in a 911? I'de love to see a GC or IR comparison of this to Techtron and Stabil. I havn't checked their web site yet , but I would expect it to support "miracle cure " status for this stuff.

This is from Cageyer on the Pelican R11s R12S side....
Frankly, I've never heard of Star*Tron products, so I looked them up. According to the Material Safety Data Sheet, for Star*Tron Gasoline Additive, it is primarily naptha, >95% weight to volume, which, IMO, puts it's squarely in the solvent category. Again, there is nothing wrong with solvents per se, it just that they are an older, perhaps dated technology. Companies with brand names that have tremendous customer equity like Marvel Mystery Oil and Seafoam, continue to sell profitably. Star*Tron is unfamiliar to me as a brand but this product is a solvent. Again nothing wrong, solvents dissolve solids, but would you rather watch TV on the old black and white or that new flat screen. Advances in the chemistry of fuel system cleaners have produced a better product, Techron, an advance that was worthy of a patent. With Techron available everywhere for not much more than the solvents, I can't think of a compelling reason not to use it. __________________ Bushmaster AR15A3, EoTech holographic sight, AK 14.5, 30R Colt magazine 2007 R12S Ohlins, Akra, BST, RT A-arm, FRK, ProPilot, Braking, K&N 1982 CBX (old school)1969 H1 (questionable sanity) "Government is not the solution to our problem(s), government is the problem"Ronald Reagan I dig Melissa Auf der Maur-I'm plowed into the sound 09-23-2009, 09:57 PM

There are few things in this world that raise the red flags faster than "Miracle in a bottle" stuff for the car and, anything described as "rare" on e-bay. Techron is the only stuff that Porsche recommends (stated in Excellence Magazine Sept 2010) so why reinvent the wheel?

There is nothing like an intelligent perusal of the MSDS to put the boot to many product claims.
