one stubborn heater hose
Yesterday I did a partial engine drop to install a toothed pulley wheel for the new ignition, and one of the heater hoses slipped off between the heater box and front of the SSI header. I didn't notice until everything was bolted back just now, and it appears to be impossible to get the hose back on, or at least very difficult. It goes without saying that it is freezing cold (snow in the air today) and dark. Also I wish I did this job before rust proofing the car, after wrestling with the damned hose for 30 mins I emerged like one of those crude stricken pelicans from CNN
Will I have to lower the engine to get the hose back on ? What were they thinking ? Have I got the wrong type hose ? Why don't I have a garage ?

You might have to pull it off and shorten it a little. Then shove it on the side that allows the most travel (flapper box side i think) and pull it back down on the heat exchanger.

If you can get one side of the hose on the heat exchanger put a screwdriver between the fabric heater hose and the heat exchanger and use the screwdriver to pull the hose down over the heat exchanger as you work the screwdriver around the circumference. This method worked like a charm when I put the hoses on my car. Doing the other end that attaches to the the flapper boxes was way harder so don't go there.
