Need Help with Strange Lighting Problem

I've done several searches and can't seem to find a similar problem. My car is a 72T. The problem is that I have headlights but no taillights or parking lights...until I turn on the blinker in which case all the lights work properly. So, to avoid looking like an 80-year old driving with my blinker on, I would like to remedy this problem.

To summarize: Headlight switch on results in headlights on but no taillights. Headlight switch on and blinker on results in headlights and taillights on. Weird.

Any idea?

Best,
-Rick

crazy electrical things are often grounds

Good point Randy. I'm really hoping that it's something mis-wired, since the lights works when the blinker is on. Seems like the power goes to the lights through the blinker...

Sorry rwebb. I called you Randy but that may not be your name.

yup, that's me

you could bridge around the stock feed with a long wire - the gnd. would still be in circuit so would cause the problem if it was bad

but the gnds. often need work on these car anyway, as do the bulb contacts

Don't know your car, but my guess is the stalk switch. All lights including blinkers go through it, at least on my car.

another likely idea

given you are back East & near a big wet river... I'd check the gnds first, as they need to be done periodically anyway

then use the long wire to bridge around the stalk, etc.

then...

I'll try the stalk first, then the grounds ( dumb question...where are the grounds?)

Thanks guys.

Oddly enough it has not rained here in 6 weeks. Big river may run dry.
