Post Porsche Contacts in Ontario

Hi fellas,

I'm just wondering if there are any members of this board who live in Ontario. I'm looking for feedback on the PCA Upper Canada Region as well as some local contacts for wrenches and machine shops.

Any word on the Rennsport Region would be good because its a toss up between the two. Thanks!

You bet. Live in Pefferlaw, north of Uxbridge. As for wrenches, I've not yet required one, and have done all the maintenance myself.

But, for parts, that are too hard to get across the border, or too much a pain in the ass to pay the duty, I use Pfaff in Newmarket. The parts guy is good, and I have found the prices OK.

Yeah, Pfaff is pretty good. I am trying to get a job there when they open their new stand alone Porsche dealership in August.

I like Sati at Downtown Fine Cars aswell because I REALLY knows his stuff. Its just kind of a pain in the ass to drag the car all the way down there... I'm in Nothern Ontario (Sudbury).

Are you a PCA member?

Cool

Adam

No, I'm not a PCA member yet. I keep saying that I'll join soon.

Sudbury, I'm originally from New Liskeard, so you could say I'm familiar with Sudbury

I was unaware that Pfaff was opening a new dealership. Will it be in Newmarket?

I'm also from the Ottawa area. My mechanic and good freind is Chris Kirby, K&B Auto(In Vars just a little east of Ottawa). This guy is definately one of the great Porsche gurus. For the past many years he has been the head driving instructor for the PCA for all of Canada and part of the northern US. He's got lots of cool p-cars including a racer that quite ressembles old moby dick herself (not turbo though).

He's built alot of really innovative engines and has a full dyno setup. Definatly worth dropping by if you're in the area.

I keep saying I'll join the PCA too!

Try www.renntechmotorsports.com and contact Rob Martin. He is a long time PCA Rennsport region member.

Rob is a great guy, I've spoken to him on several occasions. Thanks for the word though. Is his shop pretty good (price vs quality)?

As for Pfaff, their new shop will be in Woodbridge (where all the money is). Supposed to be the largest stand alone in Canada. Even though there are only 11 dealers in Canada, that is still pretty cool.

Ottawa is a hot spot for Porsches. Nice because people there are so much friendlier than in Toronto. Quebec is also fairly well stocked with Porsches.

Funny how few people join the PCA but still love their cars. Right now I can't afford it, with the rebuild and all.

When do you lads think you'll bring the weapons out of hibernation? Christ, here in Ottawa it seems like there will be snow until June!

I've been on Porsche Unleashed NFS every day to try and maintain my sanity......but getting weaker (lol)

Needlevalve, Poorsche,

I have taken my car out of hybernation last weekend. It was great. We should get together and talk P-cars. I'd like compare another 911s clutch to see if it as stiff as mine.

When do you guys plan to de-hybernate? What kind of 911 do you have? Mine is a Red 1978 911SC targa. I picked mine up end of last summer.

Tbitz, I usually bring mine out around the 15th of April. I like to wait until there's been a good downpour of rain (to ensure the salt has been washed off the roads).

I've got a 75 911S. Acquired it last year to replace my 70 911 T which (as some on this post know) was molested by a large deer. For you lads in Cali: a deer is a big scary monster that waits at the side of roads to leap out infront of unsuspecting motorists

Yeah fellas we should meet up to compare notes. My clutch is also a little heavy which I believe is relatively normal for my year. Way heavier than my previous 70T. Not sure about SC though.

I see that poorsche is in ottawa, what about you tbitz? I'm in Manotick (15 mins south of Ottawa).

Hey ChrisN how's you're car coming along? Any estimate on when it will be seeing some road? That other car never came through last year but I have found a 73 targa sitting in a barn and I am trying to negotiate it's acquisition.

I'm in Sudbury and I know all about deer. Moose actually, big bastards around here on highway 69. If my car were up and working, I'd already have her out and just wash her down if she starts looking salty.

Are any of you going to go to Hershey PA for the swap meet? I'm looking for someone to hitch a ride with because all my cars are broken. Maybe we can send a little 'Canadian Caravan' down there!

I wish there was someone out here in Nothern Ontario... My P-car is getting lonley...

needlevalve,

I'm in the Alta Vista area of Ottawa. Maybe we could meet at your local mechanics place (K&B in Vars) and check out his P-cars. Let me know when you take her out.

I'll be driving to Hershey late Friday the 20th. I'll probably just have my car out of storage a week by then. Hope it will be ready. If anyone else driving down from Ottawa maybe we can tag along.

This is a question for Canadians. This is my first swap meet. Since our dollar is taking such a beating would it be wise in taking the attitude of only going to look or can some real deals be had? Sometimes you don't know what you need until you see it and that can get very expensive.

Hey Guys, i'm in montreal but I bought my porsche from Ottawa! i saw the ad in the auto hebdo and had to drive the whole way just to see it, needless to say, it was worth it. I want in on the get together! i was always intimidated of meeting ofellow porsche owners as in my mind, they are usually older and more sophisticated, which I'm not at all, but you guys seem ok. If you younger guys visit montreal in the summer, and I think everyone should visit montreal in the summer for the weekend, we'll go party.

I'm game for that visit to Montreal. I hear its a great city with lots of beautiful women.

As for Hershey, I'm sure there are still deals to be made. I'm looking for a ride, wanna hook me up?

Tbitz my 81 SC had a real stiff clutch but after replacing the clutch cable it feels like butter now.
