![]() Ok sorry guys & gals, I'm guilty of an off topic topic...but I just had to. It's sorta porsche related though - uses at least a porsche starter and porsche G50 or Getrag transmission ![]() ![]() Brad

I seem to remember Car and Driver doing a test of this thing about a year ago. And I assume--without knowing for sure--that any car you build yourself as a one-off would be street-legal as long as it had the requisite lights, fenders and other safety equipment (but not including such things a airbags, side door beams, crashworthy bumpers) and that the engine was emissions-clean.

Yea those are tempting. It's tough to figure out what the total cost would be because everything is ala cart. Any idea what it would cost for a complete car?

I saw one of these cars at a kit car show at Knotts berry farm last year. The guy at the booth told me that the cars cost around $90,000 US minus the engine and transmission. BTW the car looked very good, all the seams, joints, and construction appeared to be of factory quality, unlike most kit cars.

I saw that car at a local shop around a year and a half ago, with two English guys from the company. It was being tweaked in preparation for a test by some magazines.
It did look really nicely done. And it did look like it had an upside down G50. I kinda choked when he told me the turnkey price of $135,000. While it is nice, and far, far better than the average kit car, it still is really just a kit car. I can think of a lot of other cars I'd buy instead for $135K. |

Doing a little reading on the site, around 28K for the basic kit including body. But I don't think it includes any of the freight, roll cage stuff, rear air foil, etc. I'd say there's quite a bit of labor you're paying for with a turn key solution, and that's probably with the LS1 and its engine management (much more expensive than a WELL built out 350). I figure if you have some free garage space, and love a good puzzle, you could assemble your own with a nice 350 (lean her out for emissions) and Getrag for maybe $60K and 6 months?

Hey brad.... stop dreaming and go get a gt-40 type vehicle for around the low "teens" http://www.gt40.co.nz/details.html
The gt-40 type cars are more popular and therefore have more parts available at a reasonable cost.Just slap in a g50 and a small block ford and off ya go. Theres also a company called tornado who makes a reasonably priced kit.THe last time I heard they were designing an aluminum space frame for their semi-monocoque(sp?) I think the weight of the vehicle was supposed to be around 1800lbs. |
