Another, What's this on my Drain Plug....

It is magnetic, brittle, curled and looks to have been sheared off the side of a bearing. Any guesses?

James Brown 10-24-2010 04:31 PM

If it's magnetic, it would not be a bearing or case. Looks like a bolt or stud thread. And the other thing is a U.S. 1986 dime. $0.10. have no idea how that got in the engine. Assuming it's the engine were talking about, same plug in the transmission.

Yes it's from the engine drain plug, not the trans. or oil tank.

Same year as my 911, could I have it?

My 2¢,

Looks like the ‘spring’ from around a valve stem seal.
It appears somehow ‘straightened out’ in its travels.

Best,
Grady

would it happen to be .004 thick?

DUK 10-25-2010 01:59 PM

James- I believe bearing shells are made of magnetic steel, right?

Warner- No it's mine, you can't have it. Besides it out of my 3.2l

Grady- I'm pretty sure it's not a spring, it's too flat. But I see where you're going.

Craig- It's .0065 thick, why?

Maybe a piece of feeler gauge?

Looks like someone drilled something out at one point and that's whats left over.
