Seat belt nolonger rewinds? (77 911)
My 77 911's seat belt (driver's side) no longer returns or rewinds back inside the panel. I noticed some broken pieces of black plastic fell from where the retractor is inside the panel when I was exploring. Are the retractors/re winders fixable or do you just go out and buy a complete new seat belt assembly?
Thanks, Robert Faust Redwood City, CA |

You might want to give these folks a call
Welcome to Professionally Engineered Products I recommend the above site with the caveat that Pelican does not sell a retractor (I didn't see one in 2 searches). Edit: I see in doing a little more reading that suppliers don't like dealing with only parts to seat belts. However, there are parts on evilbay. Another source recommends spraying silicone up in the mechanism. That was followed by a dicussion ad nauseum about the detrimental effects of silicone. Too much for me. I replaced the seatbelt in my 1981 because it was getting frayed.
Bought a used set off of eBay, it was a pretty easy install. Seems to me that when I was researching new seatbelts, there were a couple of vendors who had new complete seatbelts. But if I recall correctly, they were pretty expensive compared to the eBay option. |

I would definitely go for a new set from the source mentioned above. Belts have a useful life as the material tends to get frayed and brittle. If you value your body this is not the place to pinch pennies.

Try Lucas Valdes, owner of Go Westy, at 800.593.8787 for new factory inertia reels. Less than $100.

Thanks everyone for the comments, RSTarga kinda brought me out of my "get a used one" and I'm going with one from milts comments. Thank you all again.
