73 Melted red/green tunnel wire?

I bought a 73 tub a while back for my project and now that i am digging into it, I found the the red wire with a green stripe on it has been fryed in the tunnel. It seems that everything else looks OK so I was planning to just run a new wire in place of it. The problem is, I can'y find this wire on any diagrams. Does anyone know what the red/green wire that goes through the tunnel goes to? There is a possibility that this isn't the original harness.

Red wire w/green strip is the electric fuel pump but the wire should not be in the tunnel.

73 Melted red/green tunnel wire?

That is what I found on the wiring diagram. But that is what is in there. Very strange. I guess I may pull a wire through in case I might need it down the road. I don't want to build this thing up and find that I need another wire pulled through the tunnel.

Has your fuel pump been relocated to the front cross member? Maybe the PO pulled wires through the tunnel to feed the new location. Just a guess.

That could have been it. It was used as a track car. I am not positively sure it is the original harness. I will take a pic when I get home.

Here's a pic of the harness where it goes through the tunnel.

Just another question after rereading your second post. Was the wiring you found in the tunnel as pictured--without being wrapped--or did you strip the wrapping to show the individual wires for illustration?

There are several other wires that need attention in that picture.

73 Melted red/green tunnel wire?

I pulled the wires out throughout the front of the tunnel and stripped the covering from that section. There are a couple of other wires that I will replace as well. I was able to figure out where those go. Some of them still have melted covering from the red wire on them. I am considering a completely new harness. If I go that route, what years will closely match up? Fo reference, I am building a RS style car with a 3.0l from a 78.
