sunvisor screw hole stripped

The mounting hole for the screw of the sunvisor pivot is stripped. This is the female threaded portion underneath the headliner (something I can thank the previous owner for). Short of pulling back the headliner, are there any options for addressing this..? Slightly larger screw?

Thanks

This is not an area put under much stress, so you may be able to get away with wrapping the original screw in plumbers tape.

I think tape is a fine idea, keeps orig. parts in place, though it's only hardware. However, I did put a new one size larger screw in my car (pass. side would not hold) and it looks orig. and works fine; black phillips head from Ace Hardware.

metal puddy. You can get a tube from most flaps and even wal mart. Once it hardens you can drill and tap it.

Fill the hole with JB Weld epoxy putty (putty...not the liquid stuff in the individual tubes). Allow it to harden completely, and then drill and tap.

My $.02. HTH!

Sometimes just running the proper sized tap through will give you back enough threads to hold a new bolt, then just put some blue Loctite on it and fuggetaboutit! If completely stripped I would drill and tap to the next size and be done with it.

Not sure if the 911 sun visor mount is similar to the Boxster's but the threaded female portion of the visor mount on the Boxster is a common failure. One solution is to replace the original threads with a nutsert.

I was able to do a temp fix on mine using black silicone sealant, and it has lasted several years. At some point I'll probably go the nutsert rout if needed.
