While cleaning my new C2 Turbo wheels/tires (purchased for my project car), I noticed that the Pirelli PZero tires say "Made in Germany" on the sidewall. And the wheels say "Made in Italy" on the inside of the wheel. Was I duped? Are these not OE Porsche wheels? Isn't Pirelli an Eyetalian company?

I think Porsche uses other sources for their wheels. Ferrari and Saab use BBS but label them as their own. There are many wheel manufactures in Italy. As far as manufacturers and the place the items are made in this day and age, who really knows anymore. Even all Boxters aren't made in Germany any more. Soon they will be making 996's in some rural town in South Carolina.

The Pirelli CN-36 tires that came on RS 2.7 and RS 3.0 models were made in Germany 28 years ago, so Pirelli has placed factories outside Italy for quite some time, as has Michelin!

Pirelli is a worldwide company. They make more than tires. I just spec'ed some of their high voltage power cable for a local utility.
It will be made at a Pirelli plant in Switzerland. ------------------ '81 SC Coupe (aka: "Blue Bomber") Canada West Region PCA The Blue Bomber's Website |

Funny, to me when I hear the name Pirelli I still think "the best indoor model airplane rubber you can buy" (use to fly pennyplane, EZB, and peanut).
As I recall the rubber (bands) were originally intended for tying grape vines to a trellis? blue |

I know that a few models (like the cup wheels, and 3.6 turbo wheels) were manufactured by Speedline (SAC), which is based in Italy.

That was my suspicion, when I saw the Made in Italy stamp, that they were Mille Miglias. They look like they have a Porsche part number stamped on them. How do I tell that they're OE Porsche?

Hello
Pirelli boughtin the 60´s "Engelbert" in germany. Engelbert was one Leader in high performance tires ( Formula 1 back then ). There Phoenix Tire had some leding technologies. Today most High Performance Pirellis are still developed and baked in germany. Pirelli also uses the german test branch. Most of the rims on the 964 come from Momo. They even produce the Fuchs on the original tools. Some rims where produced from Speedline or from a german company. Fuchs is now only producing for Mercedes and other military or protection cars. BTW, the famous race driver Hans Herrmann was
the importer for Speedline in Germany for many years. He died recently but drove most of Porsche's great race cars in the 50's through the early 70's. Somehow we are related (distant but who cares..). Bruce Herrmann 73911S |

When I think of Pirelli I remember the sexy models that adorn the Pirelli Calendar; extremely hard to come by, just try to find one!

Hello
Pirellli Calendars have a long tradition and are giveaways to good costumers. I still have the Newton version ( good cars perfect light and typical Newton style ) and maybe some others. Hans Herrmann was also the general importer for Momo, Koni, Nardi, Abarth and many others. Startet also as a garage company, best way for succesfull ventures. Didn´t know he went over to the big race field. Hope he will find a 917 there. Grüsse |
