injectors, buy new ones or have old ones rebuilt?

Curious to know which route you have taken.

From what I read, EFI injectors are not really "rebuilt," more like reconditioned. They test the resistance in Ohms and do an ultrasonic cleaning.

That is unless something new and exciting has come up.

If an injector came up bad during the ohm test, the person performing the re-conditioning would then suggest a replacement of said bad injector?

I don't have a problem sending my injectors out for the re-conditioning.

But, I'm hearing a good argument on both sides.

The re-conditioners are touting, "no need to replace, re-condition".

The sellers of new injectors, "don't re-condition, don't take a chance".

Wll, its $120 to recondition and its $120X6 to buy new. You can always buy new later if the check up doesnt work.

Very good question, I was wondering about this too. I guess there is not really a rebuilding of the injector, but I have seen where some companies test flow pattern and flow rate. Are they able to adjust any internals to get more consistent flow across a set?

Rebuild

I had mine rebuilt. They flow test them before and after. They replace the O rings, pintle needle and cap, filter basket, spacer. The injectors in my '87 had 83K Km on them; only one had slightly lower flow rate than the others. After the rebuild they were all good. I think it's the way to go before buying new ones if they're low mileage. Good injectors should last a long time.

Send them to WitchHunter for refurb. I just sent a set from my 88 Carrera and the turnaround
was really fast and the price was right. About $130 total including shipping using USPS one price $5 box. You will be impressed.

I sent my 89 3.2 injectors to WitchHunter with good results.
You might inquire if they can paint them after cleaning.
My injectors now looking a bit rusty, I'm sure no affect on operation.

+1 for WitchHunter. Just had them do a set for a 3.2. They also have GREAT turn around speed - like 2 days in shop. They provide a nice couple of charts for you to see the original/then after freshening, leak test, spray pattern, static flow and pulsed flow as well as the total cc/minute, static variance and pulsed variance.

Ok, off to WitchHunter they will go....Thanks!

....A new question, how can you tell if a fuel pressure regulator is failing? What are the symptoms?...

....do they just stop working or operate badly?

If they've never been touched, it's time! I went the other route 5 years ago, and purchased new, when they were only $100 ea. At 135k miles, it was like having a brand new motor put in the car. Started easier ( both cold and hot) idled smoother, 25% increase in mpg, and best of all, felt like I added 20 horse power.

Not to highjack the OP but->

This sounds like it's exactly what is needed for the CIS system in my '81SC, decent power but crappy mpg (12-15?)
Part of that is my foot, but still...

But, as stated prior-who does the injectors for our CIS cars?

Any recomendations?
