increasing width & diameter of BBS wheels
Looking for guidance on the steps to take to increase width and diameter of my 3-piece modular BBS wheels. Not sure what I need...rim, barrel, both? New fasteners? Any links to suppliers would be appreciated...
Currently they're 16 x 7 & 8; looking to go 17 x 7 & 9...tire availability driving this question. But then, there's always Jeff Alton's fuchs.... ![]() ![]()

I know you can always get wider inner and outer wheels halves....
but not sure you can change diameters??? I think that is all tied to the size of the center section. If you have 16" centers, then your wheels will always be a 16" wheel. But you can make them as narrow or wide as you'd like by adding the appropriate sized inner or outer wheel half.

Those look like BBS Rs's, in which case you can upsize from 16" to 17" by changing the inner and outer barrels on each wheel. You may find it is more economical to buy a set thats already together, the 17" lips/barrels are becomming harder to find.

I have looked at doing this recently. You can buy a kit from a company in Germany for EUR1400, plus shipping. Here in Australia I sourced a company who could do it, but it would cost a similar amount. All in all, not a cheap exercise, and possibly it would be better to get something new (like Altons) for similar money once you factor in the sale of your BBS wheels. Just my 2 cents.
If you would like contact details for the company in Germany for wheel halves, PM me. |
